What is the best university in Seoul for international students?

Can I study at a Seoul university entirely in English?

Some defined programs use English, including degrees at Yonsei Underwood International College. Elsewhere, English course availability can vary by department and semester. Is university housing guaranteed in Seoul?

Q: Is Korea University Sejong Campus in Seoul?

No. Korea University Sejong Campus is outside Seoul and is distinct from the main Seoul campus in Anam. Asia Pathway's current Korea University bachelor listings are Sejong Campus programs. Check the campus on every program page, admission letter, housing plan, and cost calculation.

Seoul's universities differ more than a ranking table suggests. They have different program languages, campuses, neighborhoods, admission tracks, scholarships, course access, and housing.

This guide compares six prominent institutions without claiming that one is best for every international student. Verify the current intake and department before applying.

Seoul National University

Seoul National University, or SNU, is a national research university with broad undergraduate and graduate fields. Its main Gwanak campus is in southern Seoul, while medicine and other activities use additional locations.

SNU publishes separate international undergraduate and graduate guides. Its 2026 graduate guidance told applicants to contact the relevant department directly about English course availability. That is an important warning: an international admissions page does not mean the complete degree is taught in English.

SNU also runs exchange, visiting, Korean language, and summer routes.

Best fit: applicants seeking a broad research university who can verify department language, curriculum, and campus.

Yonsei University

Yonsei is a private university whose Sinchon campus is in western central Seoul. It offers Korean taught programs, exchange, summer study, graduate programs, and Underwood International College, or UIC.

UIC offers English undergraduate degrees across arts, science, and engineering fields. Admissions rules change by year. Its official page says English proficiency evidence becomes required from the 2027 intake, whereas it was optional through 2026.

Yonsei also has other campuses and colleges. Confirm that the program is based in Sinchon if living in Seoul is part of your decision.

Best fit: students seeking a defined English undergraduate option or a specific Yonsei department in a central student area.

Korea University

Korea University's main Seoul campus is in Anam and offers broad undergraduate, graduate, exchange, and summer study.

International applicants should distinguish the Seoul campus from Korea University Sejong Campus. Asia Pathway's current Korea University bachelor listings are specifically Sejong Campus programs, not Seoul programs. Do not market them as Seoul degrees.

The Seoul International Summer Campus is another distinct route and does not imply admission to a full degree.

Best fit: students whose exact Korea University campus and program are confirmed in the official admission documents.

Ewha Womans University

Ewha is a private women's university in western Seoul with a broad range of undergraduate and graduate fields, exchange, language, and international study.

Degree eligibility, program language, and admissions rules must be checked in the current guide. Exchange and nondegree participation can have different eligibility from degree admission.

The area around Ewha and Sinchon has strong student services and transport, but housing availability is separate from admission.

Best fit: eligible applicants seeking a women's university environment and a confirmed program.

Sogang University

Sogang is a private university near Sinchon, known for a compact campus and programs across humanities, social sciences, business, communication, science, and engineering.

It also operates Korean language education. Applicants should distinguish a language course, exchange semester, and degree program because they produce different records and immigration documents.

Best fit: students who prefer a more compact campus and can identify a suitable department and teaching language.

Hongik University

Hongik is a private university with a major Seoul campus in the Hongdae area and a strong public identity in art, design, architecture, and creative fields alongside other subjects.

Portfolio, studio, and language requirements can be program specific. Hongdae can be convenient and culturally active, but nightlife noise and housing prices vary by street and building.

Best fit: applicants with a precise creative or other academic program who verify portfolio, language, facilities, and campus.

Rankings are not an application plan

A ranking may reflect research, surveys, citations, or reputation. It does not confirm:

that your degree is taught in English
that international students may enter the department
that the campus is in Seoul
that courses will transfer
that dorm housing is guaranteed
that a scholarship renews
that the degree meets professional licensing rules

Build a comparison from official program evidence.

Teaching language

Ask each department:

What language is used for required courses?
How many 2026 or next-intake courses are in English?
Are Korean proficiency scores required for admission or graduation?

Neighborhood and commute

SNU's Gwanak campus, Korea University's Anam area, and the Sinchon, Ewha, Sogang, and Hongdae cluster create different commutes and daily lives.

Measure door to classroom time at the actual campus. A short map distance can involve hills, transfers, or a large campus walk. Compare late transport, food, clinics, study space, and noise.

Housing

University dorms may be competitive, restricted by semester, or located away from a department. Ask whether housing is guaranteed, application dates, vacation access, room sharing, meals, and cancellation.
